Best of the Best: Outstanding Safety Culture Award
“Safety is our first priority” is a motto that Bothwell-Accurate takes to heart both within its offices and out in the field. It is also a mission statement that has helped this year’s Outstanding Safety Culture Award winner maintain its high standing among industry peers.
“Employee health and well-being is a condition of employment here. All our employees sign on for safety starting on their first day with the company,” says Tom Bussey, Bothwell-Accurate’s health and safety manager, adding, “It’s not just about policies and procedures, either. It’s about the many hats we wear each day to address the issues that we are presented with. I am proud of our employees for embracing and advancing the idea that safety is a choice they make in their daily activities.”
A COR-certified company, Bothwell-Accurate’s safety program includes ongoing training, awareness events, extensive safety monitoring and reporting, and team-building events to ensure employees are united in their effort to protect the health and well-being of everyone on site.
“We reinforce our employees on constructing those safe choices [by encouraging] employee engagement and input in decision-making, as well as ongoing training to keep employees current with trends, methods and products, risk awareness and management, safe work practices and procedures. [We also provide] effective communication, recognition and reward, and management’s support,” stresses Bussey. “Employees recognize that the company cares about their well-being, and the company knows that its workers are committed to our safety expectations.”
Bussey notes that the TCA Outstanding Safety Culture Award is one to be shared with all the employees of Bothwell-Accurate. “To get us to this point has been daunting and at times arduous, [and it’s been achieved] through our employees’ continual, positive attitude toward our Health and Safety culture,” he says. “The results correspond to how proud we all are of the work we do.”
