Collaborative Problem-Solving: BMO Field

Collaborative Problem-Solving: BMO Field

Between Phases 1 and 2 of the BMO Field renovations, Toronto FC made it to the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. The start of Phase 2 construction was pushed back by a month to accommodate a potential home playoff game against the Montreal Impact. However, the schedule for the opening game of the following season was already set.

The original plan for the structural steel and the roof drains presented a challenge. They simply could not all be installed in the time remaining. An alternative was needed.

Bothwell worked with construction manager PCL and our trade partners to find a solution that met both the completion date and provided adequate drainage. We cut back half of the roof drains and installed an additional two feet of tapered insulation. This solution worked to funnel rainwater away from the middle of the roof and directed it down both sides to the leaders. It also cut the amount of time required to install the mechanical portion of the work in half.

Collaborative problem-solving allowed for BMO Field to re-open on schedule.

You know what we say to that? boom boom “HEY!”
